Water Polo

WRASA Killer Guppy Water Polo players compete within BCSSA (British Columbia Summer Swimming Association) and our season is  May 1st through August 31 each year. Water Polo practices are held at Surrey Sport and Leisure Complex (SSLC) and may be held on Tuesday and/or Thursday nights and/or Saturday and Sunday nights.  As soon as the coaching staff has prepared the practice schedules they will be communicated to the club via email and posted on the website. Registration includes two, 1-hour practices per week.  Water Polo practice times will not conflict with swimming practice times.

PRACTICE SCHEDULE

We will be practicing on Tuesday and Thursday nights at Surrey Sport and Leisure Centre (Fleetwood Pool) at the following times:

P1 and P2 (Ages 13 and under):  7:45 pm dryland warm-up, 8:00-9:00 pool training

P3 and P4 (Ages 14 and over):  8:45 pm dryland warm-up, 9:00-10:00 pool training

TOURNAMENTS

We have exciting news for 2009!  We will be hosting our own P2/P3 Tournament at Fleetwood Pool on July 23 and 24th.  We are presently finalizing details and will communicate those to you shortly.  This is our first WRASA water polo tournament and will be an excellent opportunity for our players to play before Regional Championships.  The tournament will also provide parents with the opportunity to volunteer and fulfill their club participation requirements at a water polo function.  If you have any particular area of expertise that you can offer, please let me know.

All age groups will be participating in at least one qualifying tournament this summer in addition to Regional Championships and our own tournament.  We will participate in additional tournaments based on player interest and availability.  I am presently working with our Head Coach Faye on choosing our tournaments to attend.

We understand that many families take summer holidays during the time of the summer water polo season.  In order to maximize the number of players who can participate in tournaments we would like to know as far in advance as possible of any times when your children will not be available to attend tournaments.  I realize plans change over the summer but if you know now when you will be away, that will give us an indication of times to register for tournaments.

FEES

The registration fee per player covers the cost of training, use of water polo equipment plus the opportunity to attend one tournament and the Fraser South Regional Water Polo Tournament.  Additional tournaments can be added for approximately $20 per player. The true cost of the program is substantially more than the fees the club charges.  Should a team qualify for Provincials, registration does not cover tournament entry fees and this will be a separate fee payable per player. A great deal of effort goes into organizing fundraising and applying for gaming funds to cover the true cost of running this aspect of the club.

All WRASA water polo players will receive the same amount of practice and tournament play and the fees will be the same for all age groups. The competition age groups are 16 to 18, 14&15, 12&13, and 10 & under.
